WHAT IS THE SUZUKI METHOD?

Over sixty years ago, Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki noted how children all over the world easily learn to speak their native language. He reasoned that this ability could be applied to learning and becoming proficient on a musical instrument. He called this method the mother-tongue approach.

Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy is that all children are born with a high potential for learning and that given the opportunity and a proper environment, any child can learn to play an instrument.

More than Music

Our program instills confidence, love of learning, goal-setting, perseverance, teamwork, improved concentration, appreciation of others, and more! The ideas of parent responsibility and loving encouragement are features of the Suzuki approach.

Early Beginnings

We accept children as early as age three... that being said, it is never too late to begin!

Learning by Listening

Just as children learn words after hearing them repeatedly spoken by others, daily listening to the Suzuki CD will help your child learn the repertoire.

Learning with Others

In addition to one-on-one lessons, children participate in group classes and performances.

Reading Music

Children learn to read after learning to speak, so we believe that children should develop basic technical competence on their instrument before being taught to read music.
