Orchestra Information

Junior Orchestra

This Orchestra is for students who are taking Group Lessons and have no prior

Orchestra experience. A basic understanding of reading music is needed. In this Orchestra they will learn the basics of playing with other instruments who play different notes or rhythms and how to follow a conductor. Lots of support will be given to them to improve their reading skills.

Intermediate Orchestra

This Orchestra is for students who are taking Group Lessons and have 1 or 2 years experience playing in an Orchestra. Music will be more challenging and there will be more harmonies and different rhythm patterns in each section of the orchestra. Reading skills should be well established to be in this orchestra.

Senior Orchestra

This Orchestra is for all advanced students and does not require you to take Group Lessons. We welcome students from any teachers and any background. Students should be 12 and older and have knowledge of advanced techniques on their instruments. This includes vibrato, shifting in several positions and various advanced bow techniques. These students should be independent readers. After playing in this Orchestra you would be prepared to audition to the Youth Orchestra or join Saskatoon Prairie Strings Orchestra.

Saskatoon Prairie Strings Orchestra

This Orchestra is open to students 17 and older. It is our program for adult musicians. Are you a High School Student who is too busy for Youth Orchestra but still want to play music with others? Did you study music when you were a child and want to get back into playing?Did you decide to pick up a new instrument when you retired and are just beginning your musical journey? This Orchestra may be right for you! We are a recreational Orchestra of musicians who are looking for community and musical fun!
